There are a lot of photographers out there that are lucky enough to live right near the beach. That gorgeous backdrop is their bread and butter, they know how to harness it beautifully and a lot of the time, people relate those golden sunset shoots primarily to the beach.
But what if, like me, you don’t live near the beach?
For my family, it’s an hour and a half to get there. If I want to take the kids, I would have to make a day trip out of it. Then you have to consider getting back before school traffic if it’s a weekday and it’s nearly too busy on the weekend. Knowing how my kids move I’d probably lose them in 5 seconds anyway. Exhausting hey?
Now, don’t get me wrong. I LOVE the beach and am always willing to drive there for a session (particularly when I get to listen to my favourite music without being told to stop singing. Yep, I love my kids). However, for a lot of the families I meet it can be a bit much to drive that distance for a sunset shoot in Summer. It becomes a pretty late night for young ones.
I am lucky enough to live in Melbourne’s outer North East where we are surrounded by gorgeous gums and open fields. This is my forte. I’m telling you now, you don’t need the beach to achieve beautiful, warm sunset photos. Just take a look at the photos below.
Capturing gorgeous light adds another element to your family photos and it can be right at your doorstep. So when you book in your photoshoot, have a little think about the location. Beach or no beach, I can still capture your family’s connection with a warm sunset glow.
